So, what is Scrappy Motors?
We make beautiful, affordable, reliable transportation from cheap discarded scrap vehicles.
How?
By rescuing functional & reliable scrap transportation parts & reassembling them into new beautiful machines.
Why?
We're starting now & aiming to have our first working vehicle ready and running within 2 months. We're currently based out of California with our HQ in San Diego and our Build Facility in San Francisco.
Cheers,
Ced

Cost:
We think it's possible to make beautiful, affordable, reliable transportation at a fraction of the cost of current vehicles. -
Inspiration:
The model of using scrap parts to build a cheaper version of a normally expensive item came from the Neonurture Incubator. Every year dozens of VERY expensive ($100,000+) baby incubators are donated to remote villages all across Africa, the problem is that once the incubators brake (and it happens often) no one knows how to fix them. To solve this problem the firm Design That Matters made a mass-manufacturable baby incubator from scrap toyota parts. It's dramatically cheaper than it's $100K counterparts and easily fixed as there are LOADS of Toyotas (and expert Toyota mechanics) all around Africa. -
Efficiency:
Transportation manufacturing is broken; it's inefficient, costly, and environmentally unfriendly. When you buy a new car/motorcycle/etc, you're not just paying for a nice vehicles with a fancy logo. You're paying for the mining of oar, shipping of parts back and forth between continents, research & development, marketing, etc. All these costs (and MANY more) are passed along to the end consumer.

Cedric Dahl (that's me)
Currently the Project Manager for our first build. Inspired by the Neonurture Incubator & countless TED Talks, I've been wanting to explore the possibility of making sexy, cheap reliable motorcycles & cars using above ground mining techniques & a minimalist design approach. When my good friend and Gear-Head-Extraordinare Robby Thompson came to visit, we sat down for drinks, started talking and within 5 minutes decided to start testing the model immediately. So here we are, jumping head first into the production of our first vehicle. We're setting our sights on building the cheapest, most reliable and sexiest motorcycle ever built from scrap parts. -
Robby (aka Gear-Head-Extraordinare):
With a background in mechanical engineering and a passion for motorsports Robby is the perfect collaborator to test the feasibility of Scrappy Motors. In addition to being brilliant, he's also a joy to be around, funny as hell and one of my fav people on the planet. I'm hoping that if this all works out we'll get to collaborate on bigger and more complex projects.
